The price was reasonable and the room was clean and confortable considering it was under renovation( pipeline and roof ).

Room was on the second floor two long stairway up no elevators.

This was not a Hotel, it was a hostel. It was dirty, smelly,(stale smoke), the carpets had cigarette burns in them, the first room we were shown had no bathroom as we had requested, in the 2nd the toilet did not flush and the 3rd you had to navigate past a ladder that was going into the roof space the get through the door. The person showing us these rooms said he the Algonquin had contacted Booking .com the explain that they did not really cater for mature travellers who expect a certain standard but that Booking still kept sending people. He did say that if we did not want to stay it was fine and that he understood, so we got out of there fast and headed to a Super8. Booked.net needs to remove this place from there listing and perhaps visit some of the hotels they do list to ensure the standard of places they are sending their members.

    Very good

The Algonquin was quite quaint and hospitable, located downtown I didn't use my car at all during the weekend I stayed in Sault St Marie. There was plenty of shopping, food, and nightlife all within several blocks walking distance. The hotel staff was quite attentive and gave good suggestions for local events & music.

The building does not have air conditioning (although they said it was being installed soon) and it was quite warm at times. Also, if you are going on a weekend the bar downstairs has live entertainment and staying on the second floor it was pretty late until bar close which was fine for me as I was also out at night.

    Good

    Historic building. Right downtown. Unique.

From what I can gather, the Algonquin has about 40 rooms, about 6 have been renovated for tourists. The rest are pretty nasty and are for longer term stays or emergencies. Our reservation was made later in the day and we had reserved for ensuite bath. The 'nice' rooms with bath were taken so we were offered a couple of the unrenovated rooms or a renovated room with shared bath. The unrenovated rooms were pretty awful, the renovated room that we took was lovely, completly different, unfortunately bath down the hall is not for everyone. I think if the Algonquin really wants some tourist trade they need to get their reservations a little more together.

Be very weary of this Hotel. It ranks itself as a 3 star establishment on this website, but in fact barely meets the requirements of a Hostel. They apparently have 2 rooms on the property which are of slightly better standard, but if you arrive when those are booked you will be put into one of the other rooms. Be aware: - My room had no a/c, only a small fan in the corner of the room for ventilation - bathroom did not have a sink it was in the bedroom, and was incredibly run down - no electrical outlets in the bathroom - the Hotel as a whole is run down aside from the renovated reception area, the rest leaving much to be desired

    Very good

Location is convenient to Canadian Bushplane Museum, easy to get to, room was reasonably priced, friendly staff at front desk. The motel is located over the top of a pub so there's plenty of parking and easy access to a bar for a drink if you've had a big drive...

When we arrived reception had not yet received our Booked.net reservation and explained it wasn't unusual, not too sure what their setup is but it's the first place in over 50 bookings we've made in the last 3 months that didn't receive the reservation instantly. He gave us the room we'd reserved however it did not have a fridge and microwave as advertised. There was a common microwave available however which got us by. Note the motel is above a pub so expecont a fair bit of noise pretty late into the night. Expect a basic room for your money.
